It is with great enthusiasm and respect that we invite you to participate in a special ceremony that will take place on May 26, 2025, from 11:11 a.m. to 1:20 p.m., in the Town of Ek Balam, Yucatan, inside the Archaeological Enclosure of Ek Balam

CoCooN Conscious Cooperative Núcleo Challenge Program

  • Duration: 6 months, with feedback every 2 months
  • Objective: To establish a sustainable and interconnected network of schools that focus on ecological preservation and community involvement.
  • Program Outline:
  • Month 1-2:
    - Introduction to the program and its objectives
    - Selection of participating schools (11 schools already selected)
    - Orientation and training for school staff and students
    - Formation of teams to oversee specific projects
  • Month 3-4:
    1. Syntropic Agroforestry Food Forest Garden:
       - Design and implementation of a food forest garden
       - Integration of diverse plant species for maximum biodiversity and productivity
       - Emphasis on organic farming practices and regenerative agriculture techniques
  • 2. Seeds Sculpture Made of Dirt Mixed with Endemic Seeds:
       - Creation of a sculpture using locally sourced dirt mixed with endemic seeds
       - Promotion of seed preservation and native plant species
  • 3. First Aid Herbal Garden:
       - Cultivation of medicinal plants for first aid purposes
       - Training on herbal remedies and their applications
  • Month 5-6:
    4. Sensorial Garden:
       - Creation of a garden that stimulates the senses through various plants and elements
       - Incorporation of tactile, visual, olfactory, and auditory experiences
  • 5. Harvest Water Supply by the Food Forest in 5 to 10 Years:
       - Implementation of water harvesting techniques to ensure self-sufficiency in water supply
       - Emphasis on rainwater harvesting and storage systems
  • 6. Declaration of Preservation Area and Sanctuary for the Ecosystem:
       - Identification and demarcation of an area surrounding the school as a preservation zone
       - Promotion of biodiversity conservation and ecosystem protection
  • 7. Recording Living Things in the Garden:
       - Documentation of all living organisms in the garden through photography
       - Upload of observations to iNaturalist app for global scientific collaboration
  • 8. Scientific Nursery Program:
       - Integration of research-based learning into the curriculum
       - Encouragement of students to explore their ancestral knowledge and wisdom in conjunction with scientific principles
  • 9. Call for Participants and Donors:
       - Outreach to invite individuals and organizations to support the challenge program
       - Encouragement for active involvement and contributions
  • 10. Invitation to School Board:
        - Development of a comprehensive invitation to the school board to participate and share their wisdom
        - Emphasis on collaboration and knowledge exchange among participating schools
  • Feedback and Evaluation:
    - Bi-monthly feedback sessions with participating schools to assess progress and address challenges
    - Regular monitoring and evaluation of project implementation
    - Sharing of success stories and lessons learned among schools
  • By the end of the 6-month program, participating schools will have established sustainable gardens, contributed to biodiversity conservation, engaged in scientific research, and fostered community involvement.
